Red Hook’s new stroke of genius, Darkest Dungeon 2, is leaving Early Access. While players on Epic have been enjoying the game for quite some time, the release date for 1.0 on Steam is getting closer.

Fans won’t have to wait much longer. As the developers now officially announced, the eagerly awaited gothic horror roguelike will already reach 1.0 on May 8, 2023, and will then also become available on Steam. During the Steam Next Fest, Darkest Dungeon 2 was available for testing as a demo until February 13.

Start sinister roguelike adventures with Darkest Dungeon 2

In DD2, you’ll embark on a highly challenging and stressful dungeon-crawling adventure. Guide a group of heroes and lead them deep underground, where they’ll have to withstand numerous dangers. Both physical and mental strength is required in this side-scroller: Stress, disease, hunger, and darkness are your heroes’ constant companions.

There also lies the big difference to the predecessor. While in the first installment, a lot of heroes were under your command, in the campaign of Darkest Dungeon II, you now command a smaller group. A big focus here is on the management of your heroes. Negative or positive emotions of your characters can result in either serious weakening or great reinforcement. Additionally, the stress of your group has a big influence on the course of the game.

In the demo, you were already able to test four starting heroes and explore an area, either Foetor (farms) or Sprawl (city). Although the lack of a save function, the demo gave a good insight into its game mechanics. With the full version, there will be five complete regions, five final bosses, and a lot of new heroes to discover. Moreover, there’s a metagame hub that provides you with large, permanent upgrades.

But visuals are worth a thousand words. So get your own impression of the game by taking a look at this playlist of videos:
