All lovers of bold robberies, listen up! We got new details from Starbreeze regarding Payday 3. What is this game about? Intense combat! Let’s look at the latest developments of the ambitious heist game, which turns out pretty massive.
The tension is rising. Payday 3 will hit the market on September 21 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, and the devs are banging out one dev diary after another, providing us with exciting new gameplay insights.
The dreaded four are back in town
Payday 3 takes place a considerable time after the predecessor’s events and reunites the four familiar characters. Two new robbers will join the acclaimed gang in the third installment. The team has moved to New York City, where the action will take place at the beginning. And, let’s face it: what better place for a thrilling heist than the capital of capitalism par excellence, with its many skyscrapers, hustle and bustle, and yellow cabs?
Payday 3 features new game mechanics and is contemporary
Above all, the team wants to develop and refine the heist experience noticeably. So, in addition to “Stealth,” you’ll also experience a new mechanic called “Search,” where guards look for a suspect (like… you!). There will also be “Negotiations” where first responders arrive, and you can trade hostages for resources or time.
In addition, cryptocurrencies, mass surveillance, the dark web, and software giants will play a role in the game.
The new heist game wants to bring together all next-gen platforms
Payday 3 looks stunning, thanks to unreal Engine 5. The developers have deliberately decided to create the new installment only for the next-gen platforms, to meet the nerve of the time and open a new chapter of co-op heist shooting.
You are a PC gamer, but your friends only play on a console? Not a problem! Payday 3 offers unlimited cross-progression and crossplay support between PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. This is high on the agenda of the devs, so don’t worry.
What about the combat in Payday 3?
Let’s finally get to the juiciest part. What’s all the exciting news about Combat? Payday 3 will literally gonna be overkill. It will include four difficulty levels: Normal, Hard, Very Hard, and Overkill. The developers recommend newcomers start on Normal and slowly work their way up.
Hard is meant to be the “default” difficulty. If you are familiar with your loadout or are a Payday veteran, Very Hard is the way to go. With Overkill, the devs are deadly serious and offer you a mode they classify as “brutal and unfair.”
The higher the difficulty, the higher the number of enemies and their damage, whereas health remains unchanged. The more equipment you carry, the slower you move in the game. Your armor comprises several shards covering different body parts and is limited during the missions.
There will be three types of enemies
Starbreeze has internally divided the enemies into three groups: normal and heavy SWAT units, unusual enemies like shield bearers and snipers, and special enemies like Nader, Zapper… oh, and in case you lost the respect of the Bulldozer in Payday 2: he still remembers!
And this is where it’s getting tricky and exciting simultaneously! If there is a “Special” you absolutely hate, such as a Dozer, you can equip yourself to clear it out with three shots. At the same time, you get weaker in other aspects of the game. And this is where your teammates come in to compensate. The game is all about cooperation and figuring out the optimal way to rule the heist.
Upgrading you weapons
As in the predecessor, you can choose numerous weapon modifications, such as new magazines or sights. You’ll have to use weapons regularly to unlock these items since each has a progression path. Otherwise, there are also preset weapons already equipped with certain modifications.
The Payday 3 release date is already this fall
While the world eagerly awaits titles like GTA 6, this next-gen Heist jewel comes just in time. With all its new gripping features, the gameplay of Payday 3 so far makes a compelling impression, and we can’t wait to get our hands on this treat on September 21.
