Sony introduces the Xperia 1 IV Gaming Edition and Xperia Stream
Yesterday, Sony streamed a live event in which the Xperia 1 IV was marketed especially for gaming enthusiasts since the expensive Flagship launched a new gaming edition. At the same time, the Xperia Stream from Sony will feature special accessories for streamers.
Sony introduced the brand new version of the Xperia 1 IV, which costs about 1.599 USD on Amazon (affiliate link). This Smartphone in the so-called “Gaming Edition” includes 16 GB of RAM instead of 12 as well as 512 GB Flash Memory.
Several software adjustments have been implemented, however, the hardware stays the same. It still includes a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, a 120 Hz 4K OLED display, a 5.000 mAh battery pack, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and three 12-megapixel cameras, including the innovative zoom camera with a variable focal length between 85 mm till 125 mm (small frame – equivalent).
Also, Sony presented a new accessories product for the Xperia 1 IV, the Xperia Stream, which will make intense gaming on this smartphone more comfortable. While cooling down the device during intense gaming sessions, it also offers multi-connection capabilities.
The Xperia Stream, however, has no additional buttons at all, although there would be enough space to at least install shoulder buttons. Instead, the device primarily fulfills two functions: An integrated fan cools the Xperia 1 IV, which should lead to better performance under permanent load. Furthermore, the Xperia Stream offers a USB-C and an AUX port as well as an Ethernet port to make an Internet connection via cable possible and also an HDMI port so that it is possible to play on monitors in 1080p and 120 Hz.
Availability & Costs
In Japan, the Sony Xperia Stream is available for 24.000 Yen (ca. 167 USD). Together with the Xperia Stream, the Sony Xperia 1 IV Gaming Edition costs 190.000 Yen (ca. 1.325 USD). Sony has not yet announced exact information about a release in the rest of the world.
What do you think of the Xperia 1 IV and the Xperia Stream – can this smartphone technology compete with handheld consoles like the Steam Deck?
