In a keynote on Tuesday evening, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang officially announced the launch of the GeForce RTX 40 series. It’s set to launch starting Oct. 12th – with the top model, the GeForce RTX 4090, and the RTX 4080 scheduled for November.
According to NVIDIA, the new series is supposed to start a “significant generational shift in performance and efficiency” and a “new era of real-time ray tracing and neural rendering that uses AI to generate pixels,” which is now supposed to be possible with the help of the new DLSS 3 technology.
Significantly more performance thanks to DLSS 3
Starting with the RTX 40 Series, the new DLSS 3 upscaling technology was introduced. DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) makes a high-quality resolution very efficiently possible. Through a new algorithm called “Optical Multi Frame Generation”, successive images are calculated in a new way, which should largely eliminate visual artifacts and anomalies and provide a significantly better visual fidelity.
RTX 40 Series is a lot faster
According to the manufacturer, the new RTX 40 series graphics cards are supposed to be much faster than the 30 series. Thus, the RTX 4090 is supposed to be around 2 times more performant than the RTX 3090 Ti and even 4 times faster in games with Ray Tracing technology. The performance improvement between the RTX 4080 and the RTX 3080 Ti is supposed to be similar. These gains are mainly achieved by the new Chips (4nm Ada Lovelace), which have a so-called streaming multiprocessor that can achieve up to 90 shader TFLOPs.
The new Flagship from NVIDIA is the RTX 4090
On October 12th, the new RTX 4090 is supposed to hit the market. The built-in AD102 GPU Chip provides up 2.520 MHz of boost frequency with 16.384 FP32 shader cores. For the memory GDDR6X (24GB) was used and through a bus of 384-bit up to 21 GBit/s can be reached. Compared to the RTX 3090 Ti, this is supposed to provide a similar memory bandwidth of around 1 TB/s. According to the current rumors, the RTX 4090 should consume up to 450 Watts of power.
GeForce RTX 4090 and GeForce RTX 4080 available soon after
The new graphic cards from NVIDIA are expected with great excitement. However, some bucks will have to be spent, because the RTX 4090 is supposed to cost 1.599 US dollars (1.949 EUR). The RTX 4080 (available with 12GB and 16GB GDDR6X) will be available in November. According to the manufacturer, the 12GB version will cost 899 USD (1.099 EUR). The 16GB model is going to be available at 1.199 USD (1.469 EUR).
