Phil Spencer sheds some light on his Xbox One’s long-term strategy.
Gamescom is only two days away and Phil Spencer will be taking center stage at the conference this year. He will be introducing some of the new games coming out for the Xbox One, with the likes of Crackdown, Quantum Break, and my personal favorite game from E3 2014 developed by Platinum Games, Scalebound. Despite the increasing pressure to deliver a great Gamescom conference, Phil Spencer has been around in China representing Xbox at the ChinaJoy 2015 event. He was showing his support for the newly embracing gaming culture China has adopted since the lift of console bans.
Check out the video interview by Game Cores below.
“My strategy is more around our own first party franchises and investing in franchises that we own and probably fewer exclusive deals for third party content. I want to have strong third party relations, but paying for many third party exclusives isn’t our long term strategy… It’s great to have Tomb Raider as part of our line-up, but investing in first party, you’ll see more of that at Gamescom next week…”
With Street Fighter 5 on the PlayStation 4 as a platform exclusive and Tomb Raider on the Xbox One, Phil Spencer wants to eliminate presumptions that this will be Xbox One’s future practice. By claiming that the new strategy is going to involve more games being developed by first-party studios, more of them will be the center of focus at Gamescom and E3.
It is looking like the future of gaming is going to be bright for gamers on the Xbox One.
We will keep you posted on the ever-growing news coming from in and around Gamescom this year.
Until then,
As always,
See you when you’re older.
