Very soon, even more people will be able to have fun with the life simulation. This Wednesday, Electronic Arts and Maxis announced that the base game of The Sims 4 will be Free to Play (Oct. 18 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Mac, and Windows PC).
Players who have already purchased the game by October 17 will receive a bonus: They will get the Desert Luxe Kit, which adds new furniture pieces modeled after the natural environment of the Southwestern desert.
Since the release of The Sims 4 in 2004, so much has happened and many elements have been added: For example, seasons change, it is possible to send Sims to school or university, and special Sims can be created, such as characters as vampires or werewolves, or Sims can climb the Hollywood ladder of fame. Also, Maxis brought new updates to the game with free patches, such as added options for storytelling for the Sims in the neighborhood.
Many fans are wondering if the free-to-play accessibility to The Sims 4 also marks the end of the game and if a successor is already being worked on. During the free-to-play announcement, Maxis proclaimed “The team is more dedicated than ever to developing new and meaningful experiences for players, and will continue to develop and Release Packs, Kits and Sims Delivery Express drops into the foreseeable future.”
On October 18, fans can learn more about what the team is working on during a Behind the Sims Summit live stream. The stream will be available to watch on The Sims YouTube and Twitch channels. Currently, The Sims 4 is available for $19.99 and included in the EA Play Subscription on Playstation, PC, and Xbox platforms.
EA had previously made The Sims 4 available as free-to-play as part of a PlayStation Plus subscription. Additionally, the publisher released The Sims FreePlay, a free-to-play mobile game based on The Sims. Released in 2011, this game is still supported.
