Fortnite Chapter 4 can come. Epic Games announced today that there will be no new Fortnite Season for Chapter 3. So after the chapter also means before it, right?
It’s an unexpectedly early end to the third chapter. While many fans assumed that the fifth season would start in December 2022, there was a big surprise today in the form of a tweet from Epic Games. So, when does the Fortnite season end?
Update, December 5th
Since yesterday, Chapter 4 Season 1 of the popular Battle Royale shooter is officially playable. Many of the predicted new features are actually available. The most special thing about the new Chapter is that Fortnite now uses Unreal Engine 5.1, which allows players and developers to benefit from numerous improvements in terms of visual quality and performance.
Fun new content & features in Chapter 4
In addition to a new map, the new chapter also brings new weapons and features, as well as fresh crossover skins. In this cinematic trailer, you can get a good overview of the new content:
The new content in a nutshell:
- Head to a newly created island and explore “The Citadel”, which is also called the Castle of the Ageless, or head to the headquarters “Brutal Bastian”, which is located on a snowy mountain.
- Go into battle with new weapons, such as the Twin-Mag SMG, a weapon with an exceptionally high firing rate and a huge magazine. Or take down your enemies with the Ex-Caliber rifle, which comes with two special firing modes.
- Race over the island with the new dirt bikes and perform remarkable stunts. Alternatively, you can build a giant snow globe with your pickaxe, jump into it and roll around. At the same time, you can use it to inflict damage on enemies.
- Play the epic new cross-over skins via Battle Pass, like the Doom Slayer, Hulk, or Gerald of Rivia from “The Witcher”.
Fortnite improvements with the new Unreal Engine 5.1
The engine improves the performance as well as the graphics of the game. At the beginning of the year, the new engine was released, which gives you a better visual representation and a leap in the rendering of details. Fortnite Chapter 4 now benefits from Next-Gen features like Lumen, Virtual Shadow Maps, or Temporal Super Resolution (more explanation in this Epic Games article). All of these features come into play on modern gaming systems like the PC, Xbox Series X|S, PS5, or Cloud Gaming from now on.

When does the Fortnite season end?
According to Epic Games, Chapter 3 is scheduled to end on Saturday, December 3 at 4 PM ET. This news might seem puzzling to many fans because it means an extremely unusual early end of a Chapter for Fortnite: The second phase contained a full 8 Seasons, while Chapter 1 could boast a full 10 Seasons. Thus, the third part would be by far the shortest of them all.
What could be the reason for the early ending? In terms of game mechanics, Season 3 didn’t really deliver any big changes. In Season 2, on the other hand, things looked different: Features like fishing and swimming were added, which significantly enriched the gameplay. Thus, it can be assumed that more new refreshing game content has already been developed, which is supposed to surface with Chapter 4.
Nevertheless, the end isn’t meant to happen quietly. Epic Games announced a final event with the title “Fractured” in the Tweet at the same time. This is to take place on the second day of the FNCS Invitational 2022.
Fortnite Chapter 4: This is what we know so far
Besides the announcement about the end of the third chapter, Epic Games has not yet released any information about the fourth chapter. It is assumed that the servers will be shut down after Epic Games’ live event.
What content will be blasted out for you in round 4 is also still unknown. According to a list from the leaker Hypex, we can probably expect this so far:
We have 5 MAJOR leaked things that will most likely release in Fortnite's Chapter 4 this December 3rd, or throughout Season 1 🔥
– Unreal Editor for Fortnite / UEFN (Creative 2.0)
