15. Warface

The free-to-play FPS Warface is one of Crytek’s most polished games and offers intense class-based combat. Good teamwork is necessary to succeed. For example, the Medic can heal, or the Engineer can repair the armor of the team members. A competitive shooter that offers both a classic multiplayer and a Co-op mode, in which you can complete missions and get rewards as a team.

In this screenshot from Warface, we see an urban environment where a soldier in a white combat jacket, green helmet, and white combat goggles is placing a green M18 Claymore on the ground. The soldier is shown on the right of the image in a long shot in half profile and is in a kneeling position. The mine has a rectangular shape, stands on two parallel tripods, and glows red. On the left, we see a stone road that runs in a slight right bend into the background. On this road, we spot two enemy soldiers in dark combat suits and Assault rifles running in our direction. Behind them, an explosion is taking place and we can see several buildings and a large tree with a lot of black branches sticking out in all directions on the right side.

14. Splitgate

This very fast-paced arena shooter is a combination of Portal and Halo and advertises itself as such. Create portals to get to different locations on the map to trick and flank your enemies. This concept alone makes the game unique and worth playing – as it’s a blast and, moreover, it is free for you to play. Tactics, quick reflexes, and out-of-the-box thinking are required in this game. An innovative mix that by itself makes it one of the best free FPS games you can find.

In first-person perspective, the player looks into a very orange glowing futuristic arena, which has a small width but a large depth and height. White arrow markings can be seen on the floor and in some places, it goes deep into the abyss. Numerous orange outlines are shown both on the floor and on the walls. In the center of the hall, there are several blue windows placed directly behind each other with purple portals in them, through which the player can pass to get to another place on the map. We hold a futuristic pistol with both hands, which we can see in the lower half of the image. The game is a mix of Portal and Halo and can be considered one of the best free FPS games thanks to this very original gameplay.

13. World War 3

This game is an online multiplayer FPS with high tactical demands, which requires a lot of team play. Fight exciting battles with your squad and surprise your enemies, while choosing from a massive arsenal of vehicles, firearms, drones, and gadgets. This concentrated World War III shooter is available for free, so definitely worth a try.

From an elevated perspective, we are looking at an urban battle scene. On the left side, a blue wooden building with a slanted roof is shown in a cutaway, in front of which two soldiers are taking cover, which we see in the bottom left of the image in the long shot. The left soldier is leaning against the wall in a standing position and wears a gray combat outfit including a helmet and visor. In his hands, he holds an Assault rifle with a scope. To his right kneels a soldier with a similar outfit, but with a balaclava on his head. With an RPG launcher, he is firing a shot at a modern tank, which we can see a bit further in the background on the right. Another tank to the left is already on fire. At the bottom right of the picture, another soldier of the unit kneels with scoped Assault Rifle. The tank is on a road running diagonally through the picture, and behind it is a huge building with a flat roof, to which an equally huge blue banner with Asian soldiers on it is attached.

12. Quake Champions

The development of first-person shooters in the 90s was decisively shaped by id Software with the beginning of the Quake series. Speed and fast reflexes have never been so in demand as it is here. With Quake Champions, you get a free and modern variant of the popular arena shooter, in which you can play exciting battles in different game modes, such as deathmatch or duels. The game even offers you the possibility to slip into the roles of B.J. Blazkowicz from the Wolfenstein series or the Doomslayer from Doom, which should especially please fans of these classics.

This screenshot from Quake Champions shows a duel between two players in a cathedral-like environment. On the left side, we catch sight of a female character in a semi-close-up in profile view. She has short blue hair and wears black battle armor with turquoise lights. In her hand she holds a futuristic shotgun, aiming it at the opponent we see a bit further away in the top right of the image. This player is a green lizard with red armor. With his mouth wide open, this player fires a shot with a silver Assault Rifle and is in the middle of a jump moment. Below the players, we can see a few column platforms, between which it goes into the abyss. In the background, we see a large stone facade with several large church-like windows with colored glass.

Choose between nine different classes, each with its own strengths, and look forward to rich game modes. Besides, the title has its very own humor, which always puts you in a good mood.

The humorous comic shooter is still one of the best fps games, as this screenshot illustrates: In the bottom view, we look at a player in a long shot in the role of heavy gunner with blue coloring and bald head. He is armed with a huge minigun and is standing in the middle of the image on a wooden bridge during the day. He is currently shooting at another player of the red opposing team, who is simultaneously firing a missile at him. The enemy is on top of a huge wooden reddish-brown building complex, which consists of countless nooks, openings, and opportunities for cover. At the bottom right and top left we spot more players of the red team.
