Submarine Simulation Barotrauma Sets Course for 1.0 This Spring

Are you ready to dive into the unknown depths and meet no less strange creatures? Fortunately, the game offers a Co-op mode...

A long Early Access phase is coming to an end. The popular Co-op sub-sim Barotrauma is now scheduled for a full 1.0 release next week, and the large community can look forward to new crewmembers.

More than 2.5 million players have already been on board, and the title has a consistently positive rating of 92% on Steam. After four years of development, Barotrauma leaves Early Access and will be released in version 1.0 on March 13, 2023. Check out the Making Of video for the 1.0 release below:

The game comes with many cool features

Barotrauma is an underwater Sci-Fi submarine simulation that can be played in both singleplayer and Co-op modes for up to 16 players. You navigate the submarine through the depths of the sea, operate machines and cannons, and craft a ton of items. While completing your missions, you’ll have to be vigilant: in the deep sea, numerous disgusting monsters await you in varied biomes.

Developers Undertow Games and FakeFish have significantly improved and expanded Barotrauma since its launch in the summer of 2019: new monsters, new missions, an event system, and improved graphics have found their way into the game. And the campaign and tutorials also got an optimization. In version 1.0, fans can expect a new ending to the storyline and the implementation of the rival factions.

Barotrauma talents, skills, and console commands

A fun game mechanic of the title is the job system and talents. These are job-specific special abilities that have various effects on the different characters in the game. Depending on the job, a character can have 22-23 talents. You can have the following jobs in Barotrauma:

  • Captain
  • Security
  • Medical
  • Engineer
  • Mechanic
  • Assistant

Find a detailed breakdown on the official website to learn more about the jobs and talents in Barotrauma.

As you would expect from an RPG, Barotrauma also allows you to customize your characters’ skills in different areas and thus perform your tasks even better. You start with a random selection of skill points in each skill area.

Like many other games, Barotrauma offers console commands that let you make various changes in the game. For example, you’ll be able to spawn creatures and items or change attributes. In multiplayer mode, players with the appropriate permission can enter console commands into a text input field at the bottom of the console window. A detailed list of all Barotrauma console commands and how to use them can also be found on the official website too.
