Resident Evil 4 Remake Demo Dropped Before the Release Date (Update #2)

Meet new freaky villagers in the RE4 remake. Is that a minotaur? Oh, just a parasite-infested maniac with a cow head costume. No big deal.

Horror returns in the Resident Evil 4 remake. Fans will only have to be patient for one last month. In the meantime, Capcom has created some excellent material, which they have now presented to the public.

Many players still consider the fourth part of the horror series the best. The game was innovative and modern with its novel perspective view and open locations. And the quick-time events were a pretty immersive boost at the time. Capcom wants to reignite and expand on this hype, and the release date of the Resident Evil 4 Remake is already scheduled for March 24, 2023.

Update, March 14, 2023

The demo is full of surprises. Besides the hidden Harcore mode, there is now another very cool secret that you can discover in the RE4 demo. In addition, there appears to be a trick that allows you always to enter the Mad Chainsaw Mode.

Find the secret SMG in the Resident Evil 4 Demo (the TMP)

Granted, you’ll have to meet a slightly weird requirement to enjoy this exclusive weapon – but it’s worth it!

After leaving the hut at the beginning, you must empty your entire inventory (important) before entering the town of Pueblo. After the grotesque sequence with the policeman, head to the left part of the back area. If you haven’t collected any items since then and your inventory has remained empty, you’ll come across an ordinarily inaccessible fountain. Descend the ladder and open the treasure chest to get the TMP, including ammo. This is especially appealing because you’ll always have the TMP available after each demo replay.

Mad Chainsaw Mode in the RE4 demo just with a push of a button

With the help of this trick, you can always play the randomly appearing hardcore mode. To do this, select Main Story in the menu of the Resident Evil 4 Remake demo. Now there are similar methods for the different platforms to unlock it:

Unlock Mad Chainsaw Mode on PC

Hold Shift and Space. Press the buttons in this order: W, A, S, D, R, I, E, F. Another source claims you can activate it by pressing up, left, down, right, R, L, Ctrl left, space bar, and space bar again while not holding anything down.

Unlock Mad Chainsaw Mode on PS5

Hold L1 and R1. Press the buttons in this order: Up, Left, Down, Right, Square, Triangle, Circle, X

Unlock Mad Chainsaw Mode on Xbox

Hold the Left and Right bumpers. Then, press the buttons in this order: Up, Left, Down, Right, X, Y, B, A

And now there is no turning back. Welcome to the hell of Mad Chainsaw! In any case, we wish you great entertainment and thrills.

Update, March 13, 2023

You can already sneak into the village of Pueblo and take on the infected Ganados. Last week Capcom released a free demo for the Resident Evil 4 remake.

Resident Evil 4 Remake Demo

For all Resident Evil nostalgics, a warning should be issued at this point: the Resident Evil 4 Chainsaw demo unfolds its full immersive effect from the very first minute, with a compelling, threatening setting and a sound design that makes you shiver. But of course, this is just the right thing for all horror fans and what was to be expected from a successful remake.

The secret exclusive mode in the demo

Suppose you made it through the madness of the demo. Congratulations! With some luck, you will unlock the so-called “Mad Chainsaw Mode” after restarting the demo. This is an ultra-hardcore mode that, as far as we know, only appears randomly after completing the demo. You may take a few runs to get the chance for this extreme difficulty.

The unique thing about the mode is that it will only be included in the demo, not the full version. Here, the enemies are in different positions, they are significantly more challenging, and you have to give up checkpoints. If you die, you’re really game over.

The Resident Evil 4 Remake will get a visual and technical overhaul

The devs want to build on the success of Resident Evil 4 and modernize it graphically and in terms of game mechanics in a remake. In a recent interview with Gameinformer, the developers revealed promising new features for Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 Remake. We have listed the changes for you below:

Ada Wong gets a more prominent appearance

She plays a mysterious role in the original game, which will be expanded in Resident Evil 4 Remake. Thus the female character will become even more part of the story through more interactions and dialogs.

New Game Plus Mode

Yasuhiro Ampo and Yoshiaki Hirabayashi revealed in the interview that there would be a new game mode in Resident Evil 4 Remake called the “New Game Plus Mode”. With that feature, you will be able to continue playing the title even after you have completed it. Provided that long-term motivation can be generated. Thus, you can benefit from your existing knowledge and skills and enjoy the remake more smoothly.

The main village of Pueblo gets bigger

In the remake, you’ll encounter a much larger village than in the 2005 original, with even more enemies attacking you from all sides, making it a more intense playing experience. There will also be additional mini-games and riddles, which will make the title feel even more feature complete.

We see the village "Pueblo" from Capcom's Resident Evil 4 remake, which also offers immersive gameplay on the PS4. On the left is the familiar church.

More options in combat

Combat is said to offer much more variety in Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 Remake. Thus, you’ll be able to include environmental factors in your fight to your favor. You’re supposed to get a whole new level of strategy options and are encouraged to eliminate your opponents in a more resource-efficient way.

RE4 gets incredible sounds, but it depends

In addition to the game mechanics and graphics, the developers paid much attention to the sound design, as they told Gameinformer.

Both the sound effects and the melodies were re-touched and modernized from scratch. However, Sound Director Hiroshi Tamura paid close attention to not losing the tonal soul of the original. The team notes that, in principle, a realistic soundscape is achieved. However, the atmosphere must always be balanced and counteracted in favor of the recognition value and the game’s feeling.

A good example is gunshot sounds. “The real sound of a gunshot is quite cold and mechanical”, Tamura states. “[…] the closer and closer you get to a realistic gunshot, the less and less it starts to feel good as you play the game.” So the team compensates for the inadequacy by enriching the gunshot sounds with voluminous action sounds to provide a well-rounded acoustic gaming experience.

It’s quite a different story with ambient sounds, such as the creaking of a door, animal screams, or falling pebbles. These experience a “hyper-realistic” implementation in the remake. The team paid particular attention to wind noises, for example, which increase the closer you get to an opening, such as a window.

The following trailer gives you a taste of the renewed horror spectacle:

If you want to learn more about what to expect on March 24, you can look at exclusive gameplay footage of the horror shooter from Gameinformer. In this brand-new video, we can watch Leon and Ashley moving through the church area. We also see a new (quite disturbing) mini-boss at the end.

Resident Evil 4 Remake comes out for the next-gen consoles PS4/PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. For PC, you can already pre-order it via Steam. There you will also get information about the system requirements. But we can give you the all-clear: You don’t need a high-end computer to visit Pueblo.
