Finally, we will be able to enjoy Microsoft’s RTS legends on Console. Microsoft has heard our prayers and will release Age of Empires 2 & Age of Empires 4 on Xbox.
In a Livestream celebrating the 25th anniversary of the popular RTS series, Microsoft officially announced that Age of Empires 2 and 4 will be available for Xbox next year. They also revealed to work on an Age of Mythology Definitive Edition for PC.
After a console entry in the PEGI rating database, rumors were already circulating that Microsoft was working on an Xbox version of its RTS classic. This has now been officially confirmed: Age of Empires 2 and 4 will be released for Xbox and xCloud in 2023, so the prayers of Xbox owners have not gone unheard. In a blog post yesterday, Emma Bridle, Director of Customer Voice at World’s Edge, wrote:
Our team has been listening to you when you’ve been asking us to bring these globally beloved RTS titles to Xbox.
It should be available as early as next year. Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition is scheduled to be out for Xbox in its latest version, including all updates and DLC, starting January 31. Later in the year, Age of Empires 4 is then going to be also available for Xbox (an exact date for this title has not yet been announced).
Age of Empires on Xbox is going to be cozy
The RTS series will be especially user-friendly for Xbox. For this purpose, Emma Bridle explained in her post further:
The team has been working hard to bring an experience that not only feels great using a controller but also teaches players how to play on Xbox.
A tutorial is planned, which will provide users with an especially comfortable gameplay experience. Next to this, there will be a helpful game AI, which should facilitate and improve the management of resources. Nonetheless, the titles on Xbox will still have support for mouse and keyboard and will include Crossplay between PC, Xbox, and cloud gaming.
Age of Mythology also gets a Remake
Fans of the mystical but equally celebrated spin-off Age of Mythology can also rejoice. This title is getting a remake from Microsoft too.
The so-called “Age of Mythology Retold” will provide updated gameplay and optimized graphics to the popular strategy game. Unfortunately, there are no gameplay scenes yet, but you can already watch an announcement trailer:
